Ben Dexter

Hi, I'm Ben. For the next two weeks, I'm going to be hiking with you and occasionally making you read and write poems. Lucky you! These days I live in Tuluksak, a Yup'ik village northeast of Bethel. If you get in a plane and fly west for 370 miles, you'll land in my village.

I teach middle school language arts and social studies. I also coach volleyball and will be teaching health next year, which I'm not especially thrilled about. What I am thrilled about is poetry! My favorite poet is Li Young Lee. My favorite author is Haruki Murakami, although I also love me some John Steinbeck. I love baseball, especially the Mariners. I'm also a hockey fan, though the Canucks broke my heart this year. I'm not even going to talk about music right now, 'cause then this would go on forever. You'll just have to ask me.
