Day 9- Alyeska

This is Faitau reporting on Thursday, Day 9 of Write Alaska:

Today at Alyeska it was a windy and hot summer day. People were excited and were ready to walk on this journey. The teachers stacked our backpacks with lots of water bottles and less snacks on the trip. Before we went hiking, Ms. Barb separated us into six different groups. There was fastest to slowest. Lots of people went to the slowest group and everybody else picked their own speed. We all used the restroom first and Dr. Andrew’s team went hiking before everybody else. When we walked up the first steep hill the slowest team got very tired while the others surpassed us from a far distance. The second group was running up the steep hills like nothing and everyone else was walking normally. The last group took too many breaks, as the second last group did, too.

We found out that we had lost track of the others when we saw two paths going up or down. We checked down the path to check if anyone was there, but no one was and so we checked the other path and we saw Mr. Ben’s group going up the steepest hill on mount Alyeska. We made it up there and heard the river flow and jumped on the snow, then we got even more tired and started staying back until the last group came up. I stayed back while the others went and the first person I saw was Fili walking up with a bamboo stick like a real hiker would do. We walked up the last steep hill and then my camera died, then I got so mad that I threw a rock at my head. Fili and I made it up to the top and the first thing we did was dropped on the grass and relaxed. People were we sitting inside the base and just walking all around the place. People were happy that they made it up mount Alyeska and people got scared when we went down the elevator going down to the bus. Today was hurtful and tiring, but I still made our day in mount Alyeska.
