Day 2- Arctic Valley

The day started with some poetry reading in the classroom. Although not everyone can be a fan of poetry, the students were encouraged to participate in interpreting the poem The Summer Day. They learned different ways to read a poem by not just reading the words, but thinking about what significance the words had in each and every sentence and sentence fragment. With much effort the students learned just how detailed one person could be when describing even the littlest things in life.
After some serious studying it was time to choose some literature. At first it did not seem intriguing to be reading a book, the class reviewed some of the literature that was offered and some were even excited to start reading. Without hesitation students picked their own book to read.

Ready to get out of the classroom and into Mother Nature’s backyard, everyone piled into the bus only to take a short cat nap. After about a half hour drive the road started to turn from a nicely paved road to dirt roads with bumps and a rocky beat. As the city got further and further away, the troop was getting closer and closer to bear country. The trees in the wild had a certain image to them, they were so green and plentiful of life.



When we did reach Arctic Valley, many of us realized that it was a lot colder than we thought it would be so a bunch of kids had to put on pants instead of shorts, and I myself layered up. We had our lunch, and then headed up. It was a bit foggy out, and overcast, but when everyone did get to the top the sun did peek out a few times. It was a lot colder at the top than when we were at the bottom, a lot more wind as well. The air felt like glacier air: pretty cold. We rested for a bit then separated into our classes and our class did a write up on the 5 senses. Then we headed back down and into town. Even though the hike was tiresome, I think it was worth the while to see such a pretty view.
