Day 1- Kincaid Park

This is Ben Dexter of Write Alaska News reporting for Monday, July 18th.

Today marked the start of the 2011 session of Write Alaska. Along with Write Alaska this year, students will be attending a new class: Science Alaska. Science Alaska is a great option for the students who seemed too nerdy to be around the others.

This year, Write Alaska will once again focus on poetry and students will be out interacting with nature, reflecting on their outdoor experiences. Students attending Science Alaska will be taking pictures of flowers or something.

Today in sports we had game of capture the bowl. The winning team scored a lot of goals. The losing team scored a lot of goals too, though not quite as many. There was some discrepancy about the rules at first, however once the rules were added as we went, the game went way smooth. Midway through the game we were distracted by the call for much desired and appreciated pizza, salads and drinks.

In other news, those who needed a fishing license were unable to get them. After filling out all the forms it was later found out that they were under the wrong heading or something. After weighing the problems of time constraints and the length of the line, it seemed best to approach the issue at another time and/or place. There needs to be another attempt to make sure everyone has a proper license.



And now for today's weather. Things started out looking cloudy, but the skies cleared up just in time for the students to head to Kincaid Park. Many of the students embraced the sunshine and went for a walk on the trail. Nobody was eaten by a moose, although fresh tracks were spotted.

All in all, everyone got to run around, meet new people, and eat pizza. It truly was a day to remember.
